How do I play music through turtle beaches px21 to xbox live?

I plan on getting px21 turtle beaches for xbox but Im not sure how it will play clear audio through the mic. Can someone please explain. A friend plays amazing dubstep all the time an he uses turtle beaches. When I do the same, but with a 3.5mm to 2.5mm hooked up to a male to male 3.5mm to my iPod it's all distorted an unclear. Please help.
