Record a song on a laptop?

I want to make a demo of a song I wrote and I want to know if anyone knows how to record voice, guitar, maybe even piano into a mic without fuzz and static? Are there any methods or tips or anything that would be helpful? And any free softwares that would help as well? (I already have Sony Vegas, iMovie, and WMM) Please help anything will help! No rude answers!!
